Yeah, that shit was terrible. It was so bad most of us used the Canadian version of Jalopnik.

The worst iteration (which may have even been pre-kinja?) was when only one reply to each top level discussion post was shown along with a bunch of user icons, so if you wanted to read the replies, you had to click each icon one at a time. Maybe great for limiting DB loads, but pretty terrible for everything else.

I know why they did that, the trolls with both porn and violent images that were running rampant , but I do wish they would fix it. Just think all of this crap started when they couldn’t keep their big iPhone scoop on the top of the Gizmodo page.

Huh. When was that? I’ve been alright the last three ish years I’ve been using it in some capacity. I saw a couple posts when it was just getting rolled out with things like interactive pictures to the point of being able to leave a comment on a part of an image. That would be weird.

That was a strange “feature” that I don’t miss much, but some folks did use it to effect when commenting on a specific point in an article.

It used the old version of the commenting system when 5.0 was implemented. I don’t know if there was a content difference though. They eventually did away with the site.
